This book describes the author's personal account of service during two Antarctic deployments, which provided an "awakening" to cope with challenging conditions, positive thinking, leadership, acceptance, initiative, and courage.

Santino describes rescues at remote locations, aircraft recovery outside at 40 below zero, ice shelf break-up and evacuation, and near-death experiences.
