The autobiography of a man born in Rhodesia just after World War Two ended. The book traces the life of the author who, even after having to leave Africa, still dreams of returning and eventually does so - only to find it a very different place to the one he knew. Eventually, after being robbed by a wealthy politician he and his family have to return to the UK pretty well penniless and try to start up again at the age of 54. The story travels across the Kalahari, the Okavango Delta, Rhodesia, South Africa, Basutoland, the Comoro Islands, Madegascar, the Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, most of Europe, Australia and the USA. Seldom politically correct and often critical of what Africa has become this makes for some raw reading.
