In 1957 the accepted order of the day for many areas in Northern Arkansas was segregated schools, churches, and communities. White folks and black folks who lived only miles apart didn't associate. A new senior English teacher from the Northeast challenged James Harris to spend an entire senior semester doing research on a project that required regular visits to the black community in his area. It was through these visits that he met Mandy Login, a beautiful, 17-year-old. When the affair that developed was discovered, James Harris was forced to flee the community. It would be many years before the love affair between these two could be rekindled. Readers will laugh and cry as they ride the emotional roller-coaster created by the changing events in the love story. They will follow changes in cultural values and attitudes of the people in the area about the relationship between James Harris and Mandy Login. Overall the book should create an enjoyable, learning experience for the reader.
