A Note of UrgencyImagine for a moment you're driving down a long winding road. It's a beautiful spring day. The countryside stretching out ahead is lush and green, with gently rolling hills as far as the eye can see. The sky above is a deep azure blue, and the few clouds drifting by are white and wispy. But rounding a corner in the road a sign comes into view - "Beware: Danger Ahead."Your wife catches sight of it at the same time you do - and with hardly a moment's hesitation, she blurts out, "That sign is just too negative. Let's pay no attention to it. It's nothing but a killjoy."And for most believers, including far too many Christian leaders, that's their take on prophecy. It's just too negative Who needs it? Most of us are plagued with enough trouble in our lives without hav-ing to sit through a sermon describing the ominous events heralding the approach of the Tribulation. But a danger sign is not meant to demoralize anyone. Nor is proph-ecy The purpose of both is to strike a note of urgency; to rescue us and our loved ones from catastrophe; to goad us into setting a new di-rection for our lives.
