American Pride

"American Pride" has its roots in spoken word and performance based writing, specifically slam poetry. The play is based on the personal writings of an American soldier who served overseas in Iraq, complemented by the original writings of several slam poets. The pieces contained in this book are the pieces as they appeared prior to their inclusion in "American Pride" and may appear slightly or significantly different than their performed versions. While not all of "American Pride" is represented in this collection, there are two extra pieces we felt were important to share that are not in the play.
