Alvin Ailey

Simply put, Alvin Ailey brought the African American experience into the world of modern dance and shared it in a way that everyone could relate to. Created from stories from his heritage and memories from his childhood, his pieces are often based on political issues such as apartheid. Though some of his dances?like Blues Suite and Revelations?were created decades ago, they still thrill and captivate audiences, and are performed by his company and school, which continue to thrive to this day.
