Seven-year-old Alia has just moved from Karachi, Pakistan, to New York City. Both are large, busy, cities, but New York seems strange. The buildings are tall and gray, and there are lots of people walking and cars honking. During her first few days in her new home, she feels anxious.Her mom understands how difficult it is to move to a new place, and she suggests that she and Alia explore New York City a little and learn a bit more about what they can do. Every day during the summer, they go to different places-the zoo, the library, and Central Park. Soon Alia beings to see that many of the things she loved about Karachi, like people playing music or dancing or wearing pretty clothes, are part of New York too. Can Alia face her fears and get used to this new and unfamiliar place?In this children's story, a young girl living in a big city in a new country learns to keep an open mind and discovers interesting and fun things about her new home.
