This is a story of salvation. This is a story of a major world crisis. This is a story of exploding bodies and kids out of control, and a darn good witch hunt by a lunatic minister who thinks he is God's gift to... well he's just God's gift, that's all and that should be plenty. But it isn't because aliens are running helter-skelter all over the place trying to exterminate humanity like a cockroach infestation. The whole world is turned upside down where mushrooms are intelligent, and slime mold is at the top of the heap. So where does that leave the rest of us? See for yourself: Alex Liddell thought he was just another 11 year old orphan. He didn't have a clue that he was an alien at the center of a world crisis that would determine if the human race will survive - that is until his world suddenly turned inside out, as the principal of his school swells up like a dirigible and explodes at his own funeral and gets all over everybody. Thanks to a little black dog (Silly Sybean Psilocybin]) Alex befriends, along with a little old lady (Amanita Hurlothrumbo) who lives up on Old Dung Hill, he and his three best friends, Madison Hadder (the Mad Hatter), Marsha O'Hare (the March Hare), and Dora Maus (the Doormouse), are thrust into an amazing race to find a way to save humanity. The planet is out of whack. The three great kingdoms: plants, animals, and fungi have been unbalanced. Human garbage, bombs, and overpopulation are causing mass extinctions and destroying the environment. Humans have been trashing the planet like there's no tomorrow - and that's exactly what they're going to get if they don't straighten up and start taking care of the planet like they are supposed to. Now the Grangers of the Great Gestation have come to put things in order. They've designed a mushroom called the Holy Milkstar. It is a perfect food that tastes like anything the eater wants it to. Then after a determined time they cause the consumer to go into a giggle fit of pleasure and then explode. Their purpose is to exterminate the human race. Alex discovers that the grangers (self included) are of the kingdom of fungi. Plants are the kingdom of mass, animals are the kingdom of movement, and fungi are the kingdom of position. Although they can't move, this seeming limitation provides them with great powers because they can be anywhere, anytime. This includes being a little black dog or a little old lady so on ad infinitum. Alex and his friends descend into a wonderland called the Dungerdoodalarium to learn the Almog (Don't worry, there's a glossary at the end of the book) so they'll have tools to deal with the challenges they face in their quest to find a way to get humans to reform. Along the way they ride their own DNA to be reengenuated to give them all the amazing shroom powers. There they meet a gaggle of weird characters, stumble, fall, fight, and forage their way through a myriad of more than colorful pitfalls to prepare them to meet the enemy - their town leaders: His Most Extreme Magnificence The Good Reverend J. Abberwock, Mayor Torquemada, Sheriff Bandersnatch, Fubb and Fumtu Trisomy, and Alex's evil step-foster-mother, Her Ladyship Virussa von Vermivor Grand Duchess of Dunderfunk. This exhilarating and hilarious saga is an homage to Alice in Wonderland, Pinocchio, Gulliver's Travels and all the great tales that attest to all that is good in the human race.
