Beskrivelse
Egypt plays a prominent role in the world of the Bible - dominating the Levant for more than half of a millennium. In view of this long enduring background of political and cultural dominance, it is not surprising, that many words and names of Biblical Hebrew are of Egyptian origin. This part of the Hebrew lexicon has up to now not been dealt with in depth, particularly not from the Egyptological perspective, even though contact linguistics are of importance within Egyptology, however, focusing on Semitic and Anatolian words in the Egyptian language, not on Egyptian words in other languages. The present study assembles all words and names of the Hebrew Bible of Egyptian origin and analyses them from a Hebrew and an Egyptian perspective and within the field of contact linguistics.
