The of the key players of Rural Development Strategies in a developing polity like India is its adoption of decentralized governance as its key development approach. In the nation's march towards decentralizeed rural development, rural institution have come to play a very vital role in the successful execution of the whole developmental strategies. The rapid growth of rural institutions in country like India during the past six decides, especially after the passing of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992 shows the ever increasing role being, played by Rural Development Institution to achieve the fundamental goals of decentralization. Keeping all the above concerns, the present volume attempts to explore the ways and means for the development of rural India. The volume contains Twenty-Three articles and research papers contributed by senior civil servants, renowned academics and activists with rich experience on the core areas of the study. In their submissions, the authors have tried to explore the existing problems faced by the rural development sector and present solid suggestions to revamp the system. This volume has touched upon the major components needed for the development of rural India. Though the contributors have given insights and their approaches differently all of them have highlighted the areas of concerns linked with PRIs and Rural Development. It is believed that the volume will contribute positively to plan and execute policies, strategies, projects and programmes for the overall developments of these two areas of concerns which will ultimately decide the very destiny of rural India in the days to come.
