Beskrivelse
An adventurous, alternative lifestyle on the sea around the Scottish Highlands and Islands.
The story of 25 years in the lives of two people who gave up farming to take up a nomadic way of life on the sea in a succession of sailing boats, exploring the turbulent waters of this wild and dangerous area. Being off-grid they managed to get by on a minimum of money by supplementing their food bills by extensive wild food foraging, such as fish, shellfish, seaweed and fungi. The book also includes how to catch it, and recipes for cooking it, with limited cooking facilities. They derived their energy from the sun and wind, their heating from driftwood gathered in anchorages.
It is a compelling, sometimes humorous, story of sailing adventure at sea, getting into dangerous situations, and getting out of them again, of close encounters with all manner of wild life (and rocks) with which they were constantly surrounded, and with the people who live and work along the water margins.
This was their only home. On the water and sometimes on the hard for repairs or alterations, they always lived aboard, apart from latter days when they spent some time in their home built campervan
This book will be of interest to anyone who is drawn towards romantic, dramatic lifestyles, to the concept of living in harmony with nature and the unpredictability of the weather and to the adventure of sailing. Also to wildlife, wild food and sustainable living
