But to reach the Orient Express from Venice, and to travel somewhere after Istanbul, still remained open ended. That is what made this adventure so thrilling.This free spirit had no idea what the trip would entail, but she was ready to find out. It was a unique cultural experience, and one that raised awareness about the importance of conforming to local customs if you want to be treated with respect. A lesson that the author learned the hard way It was the Hippie era, and there were lots of other free spirits stopping off in Istanbul on their way to India. No GPS, iPads, laptops, or cell phones.
