Beskrivelse
I was born in Hungary and grew up under the communist regime. After I was married and had two children, my husband and I made the difficult decision to flee our homeland, because we believed there were better opportunities for us elsewhere. The escape in 1987 was dangerous, stressful and the following months were also difficult, as we had to remain in Austria waiting to see where we could emigrate to. Settling in a new country was also challenging, as we know no-one and could not speak the language. Once we had settled in Australia, people would often ask us why and how we could leave our home country and come to a foreign land to start all over again. It was difficult to say exactly why we left. In the end, we thought it would be easier to explain by simply saying, "We did it for the adventure."
