William Stringfellow, activist lawyer and advocate for the underprivileged of New York, was either embraced warmly or rejected as a radical by Christians in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s when he was writing. Nonetheless, his writings remain timeless, pertinent, convicting, and spiritual directives. Taking his hopes in the two Advents of Jesus from out of his writings gives us a piercingly dynamic devotional for Advent. These readings will make one think, pray, and act. Possibly his words are most applicable today.
