Beskrivelse
During the one hundred anniversary of the American War Between the States, the North Carolina Department of Archives and History began an important project to research and print their findings on all North Carolinians that served during that War. Their first volume was published in 1966 and continued in 2009 with the printing of Volume 17. The project is not done at this writing, but the Archives should be proud of the information which has helped thousands of descendants who are researching their North Carolina soldier. It is estimated another three volumes will complete this project. It is probably hard for new and old researchers today to realize the tools the Archives research team had forty-two years ago in their search is now considered very archaic with today's Internet tools. If they were searching for a certain soldier the main sources were the Compiled Service Records and the census records on microfilm. A long and tedious job for the team, but they were able to produce a book about every two and half years. Now with the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the War for Southern Independence, Additional Information and Amendments to the North Carolina Troops 1861 - 1865 becomes a new collection of source material for all genealogical researchers. It also serves to honor the memory of the men who answered the call of their state to protect home, hearth and family.
