Beskrivelse
The theology of Karl Barth is certainly among the most important points of reference for the history of theology in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR), even if it has not been received thoroughly throughout the GDR. With his "Letter to a pastor in the GDR" and his statement on the "Ten Articles on Freedom and Service of the Church," Barth also intervened directly into the discussion about the church's ways in the GDR. This volume analyses how particular theologians received Barth's work and what role his theology played in the work and life of East German churches. The reception of Barth in the government-controlled press and his significance for some protagonists of the redemption of prisoners are also dealt with.
