Did you ever wonder what it would have been like to be a white kid growing up in East L.A. in the '50s and '60s? The smoggy air, gangs, lowered cars full of mean vatos - dangerous, depressive, and scary. Hey, IT WAS GREAT My name is Tommy Jacobs, and I was a white kid, born and raised in East L.A. This story, in the genre of historical fiction, will show you my 'East Los'. It was a place full of fun, adventure, and many good people. Ready for a change after high school, I turned my world upside down and went to college up north in redwood country, where a full-blooded Hoopa Indian gave me an eye-opening introduction to his world. Then, to avoid the draft, I became a Peace Corps Volunteer, and got snarled up in the war in El Salvador.
