When the only animals around are people, they must hunt each other for food. When bodies are left unclaimed and unpaid, it falls to the Registered Investigators to find the killer so they can be made to pay the tax.

When a body is found within their territory, Marlot and Trembor investigate it. Things become complicated when those they thought were the obvious suspects didn't do it. Is the reason for the killing not what they thought? Have they come across something darker than a body left to rot away?
