A Surreptitious Undertaking

What happens when a sanatorium for shell-shocked soldiers of the Great War comes under scrutiny for nefarious activity? Amateur sleuth Arabella Stewart once again investigates.

 

When patients disappear and die at a remote hospital, Bella joins Jax Hastings, her childhood friend and potential suitor, in digging for evidence. The receptionist going missing adds to the urgency. Past cases have put the pair in harm's way, but this time, they are in more danger than ever because both go undercover—Jax as a patient and Bella as an employee.

 

Being inside the sanatorium reinforces the complexity of the mystery and the perils of their task. She is his only lifeline to the outside world and the team of lawmen working with them. With Jax injured and vulnerable, Bella shoulders most of the burden. After he disappears, she works against time to rescue him and solve the case. Will Bella succeed?
