The poems in A Stairway Unfurling spring from Phoebe Hoss's 65 years in New York City, where she came as a young woman. These are personal poems of family life, of marriage and divorce, of the losses of friends and one, mentally ill child, of her aging, and of her view of the larger world, the one we all inhabit.
