With every reading, I am more taken with the candid and compelling poems in Vikram Masson's A Scattering of Voices. These poems relay the story of a young man grappling with his identity. A young man who is straddling the threshold between two worlds: the culture and traditions of India and the allure and promise of America. This individual is under immense pressure to "become something...[because] being nothing...is the worst thing possible" and he must, ultimately, find his own way through the maze of disparate voices and expectations. This journey to self-discovery is one we can all relate to. I highly recommend this rich and deeply affecting collection. It is a feast for the senses and is sure to replenish the soul.
