Beskrivelse
A Patch of Bare Earth is a collection of painterly sketches of the human Grenadian landscape. From social events which occur in the midst of death (All Saints Night), to using blue paint to keep away maldjo, the evil eye (Drinking Rum for Water), to hardworking men (To Cover a Hole), and young women learning to survive (Teach a Daughter to Fish), these short short stories explore the laughter, sense of humour and sadness of a stoic island people, coloured by the author's experience as a painter, living on a small island. Foreword by Dr Fernanda Steele.Reviewed by St Hope Earl McKenzie for Caribbean Quarterly, ISSN 0254-8038, 03/2014, Volume 60, Issue 1 (Mar 2014), p. 136-139,168.
