Beskrivelse
In 1926, at the age of 19, Cyrus Grant Hilton, the only son of immigrant grandparents, was accepted into the United States Naval Academy during a time when the military and the Country was vastly different than they are today. In A Naval Life, we look at Naval Academy life in Annapolis, MD through Cyrus' eyes by publishing his personal letters to is family in Lakewood, Ohio. Cy's knack for weaving humor and detail in his weekly "news" home bathe the reader in historic detail of the time and are framed by an assortment of milestones and events that were simultaneously happening around the world. The Authors provide insight into Cy's hectic life at the Academy along with first-hand experiences of both internal and outside pressures. In a world just recovering from WWI and about to enter the greatest economic collapse in modern history, we enjoy both Cy's view of these times, as well as how the insulation of the Academy provides the focus necessary to graduate and become a naval officer.
Join us on a journey through another era, about real places, and events to experience one young man's aspirations in time.
