A History of the Church of England is intended to capture the enigmatic and dare it be said unique nature of the Church of England that remains officially much as it was in 1559 or 1662. The church that emerged and that still contains catholic and protestant elements played up or played down by the differing factions within it at various times during the past, present and future. The book examines whether it was a politically sponsored unsatisfactory halfway between catholic and protestant, or if it developed into the wonderful home to the best of both worlds.It is an informative and entertaining read, for no book that mentions Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, Thomas Cromwell and Thomas Cranmer, amongst others should be dull. This book unveils and describes the factors that caused the establishment and subsequent development of the Church of England between 1529 and 1662. The book is split into chapters linked to the monarchs that ruled during this period, as well as a chapter about the consequences of the civil war and Commonwealth.
