An autobiography, which follows this Appalachian family of Allen & Shirley Farley from 1953 through 1978. Times were hard when they married at 15 and 17-years-old. Work was scarce in this area of Ohio for this young couple. By the time Shirley was 24-years-old, they had six children. Allen's work was sporatic, but he played music at local establishments to provide for his growing family. Getting a little aid from Allen parents and Shirley's father helped. Their plan was to escape the rut their lives had fallen into and give their children a better llife.
