When Vaiyae's dying friend, disowned by her family, asked him to raise her offspring, he could not refuse. But as a crow-human shifter, Vaiyae had some misgivings. Because his friend-and her unhatched child-are dragons.

With the difficulties of single parenthood amplified by having a daughter of a different species, Vaiyae receives aid from Daneah-Zendzu-ksto's new witch-and her raccoon companion. As Vaiyae and Daneah spend more time together, romance stirs between them.
