Beskrivelse
The catalogue of amphibians and reptiles in Older Scots literature is primarily directed at readers who are interested in the use of the relevant animals in the literature of the Older Scots period. A secondary aim of the study is to suggest solutions arising from the problem of an apt representation of a large "corpus" of animal references. Apart from the actual catalogue and an animal concordance to Older Scots literature for letters A to C, the study provides evaluations of a variety of modern catalogues or reference lists of medieval and renaissance animal imagery. It points to major aspects of medieval and renaissance hermeneutics which influenced the use of animals in the literatures of that time and refers to aspects of the use of amphibians and reptiles in Older Scots literature which can be deduced from the catalogue.
