A Bridging of Art and Faith

The art of Sr. Vincent and more broadly, Catholic women artists like Sr. Vincent demand consideration within the larger discourse of art history. Sr. Vincent has left behind a body of work that is compelling in its modernism at the same time that it engages complex Catholic theology. Her work demonstrates that modernism and Catholicism coexisted throughout the twentieth century even as this relationship expressed in artistic practice was largely ignored by modern critics and scholars of art. By considering the art of one Catholic woman artist, Sr. Vincent de Paul, A Bridging of Art and Faith takes one small step toward bridging that divide.
