The conquest of Canaan, the Promised Land, by the Israelites is recounted in the book of Joshua, as well as the subsequent division of the land amongst the various tribes. The battle stories depicted here, notably the battle of Jericho, portray both the astounding victories of the Israelites due to their faith in God, and the consequences of disobedience and disbelief.
