Beskrivelse
The Chinese quatrain or four-line poem known as jueju was a major verse form of the Tang and a favorite with readers. This collection includes just over 250 classic Tang quatrains in new, stylish and faithful English translations. Some of the poems, such as those from the Wang River sequence by Wang Wei, have often been translated; others rarely make an appearance in English-language anthologies. All are iconic and beloved, and each has received careful attention, making this a valuable anthology for general readers. The selection spans the Tang period and is given in chronological order, from Late to Early Tang. Six of Hanshan's unconventional quatrains are also included.
