In this second story of The Visionary series, Taodore Bentley's emotions have heightened causing his ability - his beast - to increase at an even more intense level of awareness. Taodore feels as though his beast and his body are becoming two separate beings to the point where he feels that his beast is starting to show signs of a need, a desire to protect its host. Unable to grasp onto reality, his visions, or when sleeping an inability to release himself from disturbing dreams, Taodore feels as though he is in a coma full of sensory overload. Begging Michael to help him through specific situations, their bond grows stronger and Taodore becomes more and more dependent upon Michael's wellbeing and keeping a sense of normalcy and stability in his life. Everything seemed perfect until Michael refuses to confess a secret to him. Michael hears Taodore's desperation in his voice as he begs Michael to confide in him. Michael, giving in, reveals the secret, only it is more than Taodore had bargained for. As the days move forward Taodore realizes that everything he needed, the courage to become normal lies within Michael. Learning more about each other, the two become more connected through the beast. Not fighting himself any longer, Taodore tunes into his beast and becomes more aware of everything around him. Sensing intent, and at times hearing random thoughts from those around him, Taodore becomes less obliging and more belligerent. Taodore, prepared to graduate and leave Markum School for Boys, learns that Markum believes they own him, he is their human project. Realizing that if Markum cannot control him, they will shut him down - completely, Taodore clings to his promises, even if that means sacrificing himself to protect and save the people that he loves most.
