The Undergrunge: The Undergrunge series: Book One

In the vast network of tunnels beneath what's left of Earth, native inhabitants of the Undergrunge spend their lives in dread of the day they turn twenty-one. For the last nine years, a Sod's twenty-first birthday is the day they're dragged off and never seen again.

For JJ, his main concern lies with his twenty-year old brother, Adelmir. Addi's twenty-first looms over JJ's head as he yearns for answers to the disappearance of his parents nine years ago. That is, until he meets Nickolai, a boy from the "Above": the toxic surface, which the Sods had deemed unlivable. Together, they begin to unwind the lies spun by not only the Undergrunge government, but also the falsehoods hiding within JJ's own family.
