Kim, the lone survivor of the tragic car accident on the Shore, has been haunted with guilt so much that she fled her community, but now is back and broken in more ways than she dare speak. Toby never envisioned he'd end up raising his baby on his own but a tragedy forces him to cope as a single parent. Trying to get his life in order, while juggling being a new parent doesn't mean he hasn't noticed Kim's return. Eric has a secret: he's still in love with his girlfriend, who haunts him. As a hearing-impaired guy growing up in the country, he's used to being a loner, but agreeing to take on an apprentice for his mechanical shop sends his world into a tailspin. Ruth knows her marriage is failing, but much like her plaguing headaches, she doesn't want a confrontation. A serious health diagnoses soon makes her question all her life choices. When his high school sweetheart walks back into his world, Dylan knows he can no longer deny how loveless his marriage has become.
