Britain after WWI: the Britain of riverside gangs, blackmailers, and detectives who work close to the borders of legality. Convicted murderer (Julian Pharmakos) now released from prison, hires a young woman (Patricia Stone) as a secretary. She is drawn inexorably into the underworld, while at the same time falling in love with her employer.
