Air Mechanic First Class Maloney was too enthusiastic for his own good when working on the WWI F2B biplanes. He learnt everything possible about Morse Code transmitting, clock code referencing and photography during his spare time. All the ingredients for a flight observer.

But Maloney did not want to go up in an aircraft and perform such duties. He was happy with his feet on the ground and being a good air mechanic. However, the squadron were suddenly short of observers and the powers that be thought Maloney would make for a good acting observer. Maloney could not side step the mission he was destined for. His twentieth birthday would be a day he would never forget.
