Beskrivelse

Ackermann's Repository of Arts, Literature, Fashions, Manufactures, &c. was a popular ladies' magazine appearing from 1809 to 1828. With his repository, Rudoph Ackermann set the standard for ladies' magazines in the 19th century. Each monthly issue contained a multitude of colored engravings including two engravings of contemporary fashions, an engraving of furniture, and a scene from regular life. As the title suggests, the issues include more than just fashion, but the fashions are the focus on in this series. The original volumes each contained six issues from either January to June or July to December. This model was used for popular ladies' magazines for at least 100 years.

This volume includes all of the Ackermann's fashion plates and supplemental fashion information from 1820 to 1824 from the Timely Tresses Research Collection. It is the 3rd volume of 4. Created for students of fashion history, the plates are reproduced from the original volumes at 300 dpi in full color slightly larger than the original engravings. Important terms with their definitions and relevant page numbers are also included in a glossary index divided into several sections to better explain the fashions. For students of fashion history, the engravings give an invaluable a look at period clothing with descriptions sharing information about fabrics, colors, and construction difficult to find elsewhere.
