Kate Chopin was an American author whose works i the late 19th century greatly influenced the feminist authors of the 20th century. Chopin's best known novel is The Awakening which follows the life of Edna Pontellier who struggles to deal with the prevailing social attitudes towards women and motherhood in the late 19th century South.
