Members of King Edward VI School in Southampton were encouraged to 'do their bit' for the war effort and the school magazine Sotoniensis had a War Notes section which kept readers up-to-date with various O.E.s (Old Edwardians) who were engaged in the fighting during the First World War. A Commemoration Room at the school has an oak mural with the names of 50 O.E.s who died in the Great War among them those featured in this book: Cpt. STA Neil, 2nd Lt. EL Gutteridge, Sub Lt. OJ Hobbs, Sub Lt. AF Wolfe,and 2nd Lt. FJ Drew.
