Still Existing

"It's all around me

Gray

Wet

Cold

Sometimes it's not tall enough to stand up in

Or wide enough to lay down

And sometimes it's the size of a small room

With no corners

Just one wall that reaches infinity and wraps around the whole place

Whether it's made out of stone or anything bad that has ever happened to me

I don't know

But either way

I find myself picking at it some days

Carving and scratching at the cracks

Hoping it leads to a way out

Or sanity

Some days I pick at it just to keep rhythm

Occupy my time

Focus on something

Some days I feel like my life depends on it

Getting out

But no matter how much I carve, pick, scrape

It all returns to the way it was when I look away

The only proof of me trying

Knowing it was real

Knowing that I was working towards something

Is the blood coming from my hands

The raw feeling of the pads of my fingertips shredding away

The short and missing nails

That stays

The pain always stays"
