Beskrivelse
Practical Vegetarian Cookery, published in 1897, was the first vegetarian cookbook printed in California, and one of the first printed in the United States of America. The cookbook has incredible historical value as it shows the ingredients and cooking methods used at the end of the 19th century in the USA.Practical Vegetarian Cookery is also an example of how Theosophists promote a cruelty-free diet. The importance of caring about, and treating with love and respect, all living beings has always been emphasised in the Theosophical movement. Countess Wachtmeister was an active Theosophist and her legacy exemplifies that. The introduction is written by Marly Winckler, the President of the International Vegetarian Union (IVU). Practical Vegetarian Cookery contains nearly 500 recipes.
