Lawyer Robert Race has always been a straight-arrow guy, taking on underdog cases against all odds. He believes in his client’s innocence. But one night his confidence is shattered when racketeer Kresnik forces him to collect a suitcase at the docks, and Race stumbles into a world he didn’t know existed. He runs into his old flame, Ginny, who for some reason now despises him. He is confronted by his neighbor Paul Taylor’s wife, Laura, who confesses that her husband has been having an affair with Race’s wife, Eve, right under his nose. His protégé, Tony Fontaine, has been acting strange, and even his father-in-law, Sam Alford, taunts Race that he has been living with his head in the sand. Tonight Race learns a lot about his life.
