Beskrivelse

Markus Draper finds visual metaphors for the late-period GDR in his own family history. His father was a prominent city planner in G rlitz in the 1980s and his diaries, which were laid out in tabular form, have been translated into painting by the artist. The title Inge Goes to Work on Foot comes from notes in these diaries and describes the feeling of complete stagnation that dominated the last decade of the GDR. During that period, former members of the Baader-Meinhof Red Army Faction (RAF) went to ground in the tower-block developments on the fringes of the city and Draper has cast metal models of these prefab highrises. The book is published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the Kulturhistorisches Museum G rlitz and includes essays by Clemens Kl ckner and others, an interview with former RAF member Ralf B. Friedrich, and a discussion between Jennifer Allen and Markus Draper.
