This is the story of a conspiracy involving the Marquis of Santillana and Don lvaro de Luna. lvaro de Luna was an ally of the urban bourgeoisie. A long and bloody struggle ensued, leading to lvaro de Luna's exile. Although he supported the wedding of King John II to Isabella of Portugal, the new queen still conspired against him. She had him arrested, and even though lvaro de Luna had one of the most powerful armies of Spain, he did not resist. After a brief trial, he was executed. Centuries later he was officially found innocent.
