Beskrivelse
The twelve papers of this volume deal with global, European and Indian history, which is the special field of the author. Global history is juxtaposed to the history of globalisation, which emerged only in the 20th century. The reactions of the people outside Europe to European expansion are discussed in several articles, but also the increase of knowledge which accrued to the Europeans in the course of expansion. Peasant rebellions in India and collective identities in Asia are dealt with in two articles. Another paper is devoted to religious practice and the articulation of religious identity. A special research paper deals with Carl August Schlegel. A topic of global history is once more the crisis of the 17th century. Its aftermath is followed up to the Industrial Revolution.
