The true story of the author overcoming a 15-year addiction to morphine. Taken for severe pain caused by a disease some doctors call "a disease of agony", the morphine was prescribed by a licensed physician and only taken at the dosage and schedule given by the prescribing physician. Dosage was increased over time as the disease advanced. Finally, Adams determined he could no longer live with the side effects and limitations of morphine so with determination and the help of his wife of 46 years he overcame his addiction.
