Benevento Romana

This book reconstructs the history of the town of Beneventum, located on the Via Appia a short distance from Capua, and its surrounding region from its foundation as a Roman colony in the 3rd century BC through to Late Antiquity. Torelli looks at the early development of the town, its economic infrastructure, its political status and cult activities, as well as its increasing urbanisation. A whole chapter is devoted to the imperial city under Augustus, the Julio-Claudians, the Flavians, Trajan and through into the transformation of the Late Antique period until the 5th century AD.
