Agents of Empire (4988) Being the Fourth Tale of the Gateway War: The Empire of Randar sends Phillip d'Arcy to the court of the Loranian emperor to paint portraits and gather information. The Randars travel across Galatia and learn firsthand of the prejudices that exist between the different races of people in that foreign land. Upon entering the throne room for the first time, Phillip collapses and remembers his origins. After a successful summer, the Randar embassy leaves for home, leaving Phillip behind to continue painting portraits during the fall and winter. He makes two startling discoveries; first someone is bringing mammoths from the other side of the Spine and gifting them to the empress. Second, someone gave the Loranians a spell to create a powerful wizard's weapon that threatens the Towers of Mentep; the towers and walls that prevent the Loranians crossing into the west. Major Hart and Mage Drake return to Constandria to help the artist discover more facts. On the Shortday celebration Shortday celebration, Phillip and Major Hart observe the Loranians fight with goblins, trolls and a mammoth in the coliseum. The Galatians rampage through a janissary tribe to mark the beginning of a new year.
