Beskrivelse

Poetry! "Excellent"! "Awesome"! "Outstanding"! are words which have yet to be used to describe this work, but if anybody reads it, who knows, maybe somebody will find it amusing and entertaining. Poems in this book are about basketball, fire hydrants, saxophone players, seasons, science, religion, sadness ... you know, the usual stuff poets have been writing about as long as there have been poets. If you like a good play on words, or words on play; if you appreciate a clever turn of a phrase, or a clever phrase of a turn; if you enjoy spending time pondering the infinite and eternal (or the other way around); then this book is for you. Anyway, it is a really cheap read at a very low bargain basement price. Sometimes I have found myself reading the ingredients on a cereal box (for lack of anything more interesting to read being available) and this book is undeniably more interesting to read than the ingredients on a cereal box. In fact, the attentive reader may indeed find some food for thought, some pique to stimulate, arouse, or awaken an artificially induced emotional response as a result of perusing the aforementioned verse. There are poems here about hats, Switzerland, fairy tales, China, comics, parties, bullfights, Driving While Black, the character clown, bird flu, microbiology, Whitney Houston, mental health, walking, and so on. Many of these poems were written over breakfast because nobody else was awake yet so there was nobody to talk to. Some of the poems are obviously the direct result of an overdose of caffeine. Oh well. Caffeine is a very popular alkaloid, so maybe some other caffeine users will get it about how caffeine can cause somebody to take pen in hand and start forming the letters, words, sentences, paragraphs and pages. One of these poems is even a bit of flag-waving patriotism and justly so because the First Amendment specifically allows writing and publication in the United States of America to be part of our "freedom", and a good thing it is even if some of the things said within this book may be expressions of opinions which are not universally accepted, nonetheless, saying them is something the law in America permits. If anybody disagrees, they can write their own books and see what (if anything) happens. With all of the blogs churning away like the clouds in the sky and the waves on the ocean, it is astronomically improbable that anything will happen at all other than the rather profoundly beneficial therapeutic effect of getting a few things off the chest, so to speak. Also, after practicing law for so many years and not being allowed to speak freely in the courts on so many topics notwithstanding the alleged search for truth and even the promising on oath of the witnesses to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, why it should come as no surprise that some words just have to spill over somewhere or else the poet might have exploded, figuratively speaking, or maybe imploded, or anyway missed an opportunity for a grouchy old man to vent and allow the words to flow in a stream of consciousness type of tirade, the style of which appears so admirable when observed as an art form by others so much more talented and gifted. Nonetheless, there being a chance and a hope and a faint, undeniable glimmer of an opportunity to have a go, take a shot, give it the old try-a-roo and otherwise attempt to do a long-anticipated work, the author has humbly presented the product produced, the words carefully arranged, the finish line, the mission accomplished and hopes and prays somebody, somewhere, will read it and get it and enjoy it. There having been many authors in history who have had a way with words, this one may be basking in their reflected glory or not, depending on how you look at it. So, if you decide to take a look at it, we hope you enjoy it and tell your friends.
